It doesn’t matter that it’s the first game. Starting 1-0 is a whole lot better than starting 0-1. The Angels used a two-run rally in the eighth inning to come from behind and defeat the White Sox in their season opener, 4-3.
Entering the bottom of the eighth inning, the Halos were trailing 3-2. David Fletcher, who signed an extension with the Angels earlier in the afternoon, singled to lead off the inning. Shohei Ohtani then advanced Fletcher over to second. Mike Trout did Mike Trout things, singling in Fletcher to tie the game up at three a piece.
With two on and one out, Justin Upton had arguably one of the best at-bats of the night, working an 11-pitch walk to load the bases for Albert Pujols. The veteran, who was making his 21st consecutive Opening Day start, gave the Angels the 4-3 lead with a groundout.
Raisel Iglesias, who was acquired from the Reds this offseason, had a dominant Angels debut. Desperately needing a closer, he threw a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts to secure the save and give the Angels their first win of the season.

- Max Stassi, who was on pace for more than 35 home runs in 2020, hit the first home run of the season for the Angels in the fifth inning
- Dylan Bundy threw six innings for the Angels in his second career Opening Day start. He allowed three runs and struck out six with one walk.
