A cornerback target of Tennessee’s decommitted from Kentucky on Sunday. Jeremiah Caldwell, a highly-ranked three-star prospect out of Michigan, reopened his recruitment with the following post.
“First I would like to thank the staff at the University of Kentucky for giving me the opportunity to come and play and be a part of their amazing program. When I had committed a few months ago I felt like this was the right choice for me and my family… With a lot of time and thinking… I will be decommiting from the University of Kentucky and making my recruiting back 100% open. Thank you BBN nation for all the support.”
Kentucky’s defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale left for the same position at Michigan over the summer, which clearly had an impact on this situation.
The 6-2, 177 pound prospect is the 380th ranked player in the 2022 class. He’s ranked as the 26th athlete in the cycle, landing as the 11th ranked player in the state of Michigan.
Caldwell committed to Kentucky back in January, but has since picked up several new offers. Michigan, Michigan State and Tennessee have been the most notable to this point. The Volunteers offered Caldwell after a camp visit in June, where he clearly impressed the Tennessee staff.
For what it’s worth, Tennessee picked up a crystal ball projection for Caldwell on Monday morning. Tennessee has yet to add a cornerback to their 2022 class, which is now up to 12 members. The Volunteers did pick up Brandon Turnage and Kamal Hadden this summer, each of whom have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
